Alex Akal and the Wolves
Alex Akal is a visionary artist who fuses modern beats with the soul of traditional instruments. He’s a seasoned multi-instrumentalist who has uncovered the magnificence of exotic instruments from around the world and infuses his tracks with a touch of tribal trance music. His dynamic soundscape includes vocals, guitar, didgeridoo, fujara, dan moi, drums, beatbox, Native American flute, dvojnice, and more.
Martin Robinson
DJ and producer, Martin Robinson, is a veteran of the UK underground dance music scene. He gained valuable experience playing Breakbeat and Drum & Bass on pirate radio stations in the early 90s. Over the next decade, Martin went on to promote and DJ at Techno and Breaks events at legendary London venues such as SEOne, Fire and Brixton’s 414. During this time, he also held down a residency on multi-award winning internet station, Breaks FM. After relocating to Cardiff in 2008, Martin continued to promote and DJ regularly, making appearances at popular Cardiff venues such as The Vaults. Drawing on his experience and the contacts he had built over the years, Martin then spent the next decade promoting and playing at clubs, parties and festivals around the UK and Europe.
In recent years, Martin has turned his focus to a deeper, more melodic style that bridges the gap between Deep House, Deep Tech and Minimal. Although he had produced a number of unreleased tracks over the years, it was during the lockdowns of 2020, that Martin spent serious time in the studio honing his skills and developing his own unique style. His debut release “Perseverance” came out on Sound Optix in December 2021, followed by “Tangle” (also on Sound Optix) and “Protection” on Krafted Digital. All three releases reached Number 1 on Beatport’s Deep House Releases Chart. More recently, Martin has been collaborating with other artists, including a Glitch Hop remix for Swamp Funk maestros “CaveMouth” and a release with Stevie Jones called “Resolution” that hit the number 1 spot in the Beatport Breaks Releases Chart.
Martin was really excited when we invited him to come and play an Ecstatic Dance set for us at Esthesia Festival. As a certified Reiki practitioner for over 20 years, he is no stranger to working with energies. His intention is to create a very special set for us that will draw on his vast experience, delve into multiple genres and deliver us a seamless mix of deep soulful moments, uplifting melodies and blistering beats. Chief, a legend in the English Dub Reggae scene. will be rocking the sound system with a selection of Reggae, Roots and Dub sounds. We are also are blessed to have the Outer Regions Cafe here creating a warm, carpeted space with Reggae, Roots and Dub playing out the sound system.
